Screenmates
Privacy Policy
Effective September 19, 2026. Screenmates is a private social watchlist app for households and friends. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
We store account information such as your email, display name, password credentials in hashed form, household membership, profile photo if you add one, watchlist activity, ratings, episode progress, recommendation feedback, Community posts and likes, Tonight votes, notification preferences, and device push-subscription data.
How we use it
We use this information only to run Screenmates: authenticate you, keep household data in sync, personalize recommendations, power Community and Tonight, deliver requested notifications, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and improve reliability.
Notifications
Push notifications are opt-in. A push provider receives the minimum technical subscription information needed to deliver a notification. Notification text can appear on a locked device depending on your operating-system settings. You can disable push or individual notification categories in Screenmates at any time.
Analytics and diagnostics
Screenmates uses privacy-respecting first-party product counters and operational diagnostics. We do not use advertising trackers, sell personal data, or build cross-site advertising profiles. Product analytics are aggregated and are not designed to identify individual viewing behavior.
Service providers
Cloudflare hosts the application and database. Resend delivers transactional email. Platform push services deliver web push notifications. These providers process only the information needed to provide those services.
Retention
Active account data is kept while your account is active. Expired authentication tokens, rate-limit records, diagnostic events, and similar operational data are kept only as long as needed for security and reliability. When you delete your account, Screenmates removes credentials and personal activity and anonymizes the small relational record that may be needed to keep shared household history internally consistent.
Your choices
You can export your Screenmates data or delete your account from Account & Settings. You can also turn off push notifications, change notification categories, leave Community contributions removed, and adjust household privacy controls where available.
Security
Passwords are never stored in plain text. Session cookies are HttpOnly and Secure. Sensitive write actions require authenticated, same-origin requests and are protected by rate limits or abuse controls where appropriate.
Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent through the Screenmates administrators using the contact method shared with your household.
